A Guide to Eyebrow Lamination

Laminations are becoming increasingly popular, and for good reason! The sleek and fluffy laminated brows are a great option for people unruly or sparse brows. 

This is meant to be your detailed guide to all things brow lamination! What is a lamination, how does it work, what kind of aftercare is required, and anything else you might want to know before a lamination.

What is a Lamination?

A lamination is a treatment that involves straightening and lifting the brow hairs into a uniform shape for the illusion of fuller brows. It can also help to create symmetry and tame unruly brow hairs. It is very similar to a perm, meaning that it uses a solution to chemically keep the brows in a desired shape.

Who Are Laminations For?

A lamination is ideal for a few different kinds of people.

Those who have unruly or uneven brows can use a lamination to tame or balance eyebrows. If the brow hairs grow downwards, a lamination can lift and even out the eyebrows.

For those with sparse hairs, a lamination can give the illusion of fuller brows. Laminating the brow hairs can make the eyebrows look denser and fluffier.

For those that are interested in microblading or ombre brows, a lamination (combined with a tint) is a great temporary alternative to help you get a feel for the appearance of fuller brows. It’s also ideal for younger people who think they may need permanent makeup, but can actually just get away with a lamination instead. Are Tints Recommended?

We love doing tints with laminations, but we want to make sure that clients are ideal candidates for tints. If you’ve had tints before and are familiar with having darker eyebrows, a tint could elevate your lamination.

A tint alongside a lamination can often feel too dark or look overwhelming unless you are used to it. We do not usually recommend a tint alongside your first lamination. If you're not sure whether a tint would be right for you or not, you can always discuss with your brow artist before service.

What's the Process?

First, our artist will consult with you about shape. This discussion will help guide our artist to create the best brows for you.

Then the artist will begin the lamination process and apply a solution to your brows.

After the laminating is complete, the artist will wax, trim, and shape your brows according to the shape that was discussed in the consultation. This is also where we utilize our brow mapping to ensure very even eyebrows. 

Aftercare

1: Soft Hold Brow Gel

A soft hold gel is perfect for the first few weeks after a lamination when your brows just need a little bit of help staying in place. We offer our Aphrodite's Secret branded brow gel, but any clear soft-hold gel would work. 

2: Strong Hold Brow Gel

For maintenance during the later weeks, a stronger hold gel is required. This gel can be used at around 3 weeks after the lamination, or when you notice that the soft hold gel isn't working as well. We offer Brow Code's Brow Soap for our recommended strong-hold gel. 

3: Aftercare Serum

Just like a perm, laminations can cause dryness and it's important to apply hydration to the hairs. Elleebana's aftercare serum is specifically formulated for use after eyebrow laminations to maintain the health of the brows. 

How Long Will a Lamination Last?

Laminations will last around 2 months with proper aftercare. They will continue to need aftercare until the turnover cycle of the brow hairs is complete. We recommend waiting 3 months between laminations so that you don't over-process or damage the eyebrow hairs.
